WORK EXPERIENCE
Robert Mahoney came to Alaska in the fall of 1966, to clerk for Justice Jay Rabinowitz of the Alaska Supreme Court. Upon completion of that clerkship, he served for a brief time as an Assistant District Attorney in Juneau, followed by approximately three years as an Assistant Attorney General in Juneau and in Anchorage. As an Assistant Attorney General he worked on a wide variety of matters including counseling, drafting of regulations and litigation for the Departments of Public Safety and Fish & Game, and the Division of Elections.

In March of 1971 Bob took a position as Deputy City Attorney for Anchorage. His duties were again varied in nature and included representation of the Anchorage Water Utility and the Municipal Light and Power Utility in tariff work and in proceedings before the Alaska Public Utilities Commission.

Mr. Mahoney became a shareholder of the firm that is now Hartig Rhodes Hoge & Lekisch in 1973 and has practiced continuously with the firm since that time. During the earlier years the firm represented both the Kodiak Island Borough and the City of Kodiak serving in the capacity of municipal attorneys. Mr. Mahoney directly performed or supervised most legal work for those municipalities including matters such land disposals, procurement, property tax, planning and zoning, and ordinance issues.

Unlike some firm members who developed practice specialties, his practice expanded to cover a general range of matters, including estate planning, probate and real estate transactional work, construction law, corporate, partnership and commercial law, litigation, and general legal services primarily involving representation of small and medium sized business entities.

In 1985 the firm undertook representation of a municipality in the litigation of numerous large claims against firms that had provided engineering, architectural, construction management and material transportation and supply services for capital improvement projects. Mr. Mahoney coordinated, supervised and participated in that work, and for a period of time the focus of his work was strongly litigation oriented.

Mr. Mahoney continues to provide a broad range of general legal services to firm clients.
